About the event

Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis is from the pen of a master composer of instrumental music utilizing a sacred text to explore and comment on the nature of human life, struggle, and the search for spiritual meaning and oneness with God. To some, there is no spiritual certainly found in this music, only questions, beyond a pleading hope for peace, the recognition of the divine nature of existence and the reconciliation between and forgiveness of humankind. Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis stands as a supreme monument of artistic achievement and is one of Beethoven’s most profound musical utterances cast in a vast canvas as a flashpoint between spiritual quest and the human condition. Along with his 9th Symphony, this work, set the scene and emotional scope for similar large scale works of the later Romantics including Berlioz, Bruckner, Verdi and Mahler. Performance time is approximately 90 minutes in duration.

Beethoven’s magnificent mass setting for chorale, orchestra, and 4 voice soloists. This glorious monument of sacred inspiration is an epic journey of the human spirit – not to be missed!
